Q: Help upgrading iPhoto

Recently set up my daughter with a new (used) 13" Air.   I managed the Migration from her ancient white MacBook fine but when I went to start iPhoto on the Air, it said I needed to upgrade the software....ok, fair enough....but now the Air (running 10.10.5) says it needs an older version of iPhoto before I could upgrade to a newer version...I went to Apple and tried installing iPhoto 9.4.3, then I tried 9.1, then I tried 8.1........can't seem to do it. Of course there is an old version of iPhoto on the Air that came through Migration Assistant from the old white MacBook....but I can't start that version because it won't run under 10.10.5......so now what?

I don't mind having to re-import the original iPhoto Library, but I need to get iPhoto on the new Air FIRST...........HOW DO I DO THAT?

Thanks

Mac OS X 10.10.3 and newer include Photos, which is intended as a replacement for iPhoto. If you'd like to go on using iPhoto in addition to or instead of switching to Photos, click here and try following the instructions; you'll only be able to do so if you previously got iPhoto from or associated it with the Mac App Store.

RIGHT - so Photos is the replacement for iPhoto and I should be able to suck over the old iPhoto library?    And (secondary question) I assume Photos does pretty much the same thing as iPhoto in terms of organizing, etc?
