Mac Plus Disk Drive

My old Mac Plus should work but the disk drive is broken. It won't accept disks. If I manage to get hold of Mac Plus working drive, is it possible to swap drives?

It sure is. If you pick an 800k drive (see: http://www.vintagemacworld.com/drives.html) you can plug that into the back and even boot from it, bypassing the internal drive altogether.

But it might not be the drive - it might be the disks that you've got have themselves gone bad. But of course if there's something mechanically wrong with the drive such that you can't get disks inserted, yes, an external is the way to go. Of course with the proper tools (one of those really long hex wrenches) you can crack the case open and swap the disk drive as well. Everything is pretty modular and easy to work with; just be careful of the high voltage and high discharge of the CRT back there.
