Q: Bootcamp Disappeared After new iOS Update

Just come to use Windows again, and it seems that the boot partition has disappeared after updating to the latest iOS.

When i go into Command+R, I can only see BootCamp as the only partition available and then just my flash drive and the new 2TB drive i got for doing TM backups.

When i boot up using the "option" button, i can see Macintosh HD there, it will go to my login screen, I can enter my password, and it will start to load.... It will get to around  half way and then the black screen with the restricted logo appears.

Seems strange I can see that bit of the partition on the initial boot, but no where else can see it or mount it.

I've also just booted into Single User mode, and ran fsck_hfs on both disk0 and disk0s2.

The output of disk0 states "invalid partition table error loading operating system missing operating system"

The output of disk0s2 just shows a load of hex with no pattern or message

As you can see, selected is supposed to be the OS X partition - its displaying as nothing

On this screen, if you click on Mount, are you able to mount disk0s2? Also, what happens if you click on First Aid and expand Show Detail.

Mount does nothing, and first aid displays the following error message:

    Repairing file system

File system check exit code is 8.

Updating boot support partition for the volume as required

    An internal error has occurred

    Operation failed...

I have even tried mount force - but I cant get the command right, and have just tried mount_hfs and I get "Invalid tbuffer size /dev/disk0s2"

First Aid fails, but repairDisk succeeds. .

Are the OSX versions on the internal disk and the external boot disk the same?

Yes, I think, this happened when doing the upgrade to Sierra, and I have Sierra installed on the flash drive at present

    On the OP, you have

    2:          Apple_CoreStorage Macintosh HD            210.1 GB   disk0s2

    but now you have

    2:                  Apple_HFS                         210.1 GB   disk0s2

How? During our Windows resurrection, we never touched the OSX side.

Can you post the output of

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo gdisk -l /dev/disk0  ("-l" is lower case L)

Not sure how it could have changed as I have not touched any of the partition stuff since the original post with BootCamp

We are going to change the GPT partition type using GPT Fdisk. It is a risky step, but it seems to be the only path forward. If you are comfortable, then

    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

    p

    t

    2

    AF05

    p

    w

    y

You do not need to reboot, since you are using a different boot disk. After the change, please try Disk Utility First Aid on disk0.

i want to send you a gift!

so plan of action now is to back up everything, and I'll do a format of the drive and restore everthing from the backup
