Exporting fails/hangs in 10.2.3/El Capitan: Error: This is null

After recently upgrading to FCPX 10.2.3 and El Capitan I am having inconsistent problems exporting projects. When I go to File>Share… the export just hangs. It stays in the Background Tasks window for about 10-15 minutes, then I eventually get the "Share Failed" notification (error window screenshot attached).

Details:

  • This happens with any kind of export: Master File, a preset, my own configured setting - happens to them all. Happens with exporting a full project, or just a range selection.
  • Only happens after FCPX has been running for about 30 mins. When I start, I can export fine, using whatever setting. So whenever it hangs, I restart FCPX and can share the project. I just, obviously, don't want to have to restart the app every time I need to export.
  • App Nap is off
  • I've deleted preferences, deleted FCPX and reinstalled from the App store. I've used Digital Rebellions FCS Remover and reinstalled. I've deleted renders. None of this has helped.
  • This has never happened on any previous version of FCPX or the OS. My FCPX 10.2 on Yosemite worked like a dream. I updated FCPX to 10.2.3 and to El Capitan at the same time and this started happening immediately.

Tech Specs:

  • Running on a 2013 Retina MacBook Pro, 2.6 GHz, i7
  • OSX 10.11.3
  • 16GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
  • External Apple Thunderbolt Display

Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I am not using a Timecode generator effect in my project.

I am using FXFactory's Timecode plugin - but that's just for a moveable TC display - not a part of any project.

One of the configured presets I use a lot uses the Timecode Generator video effect that is applied on export, but as I say, I'm having the same export-hanging issue no matter what share option/preset/master file I try to export.

Thanks for the info!

Hmm, odd. You mean, specifically, a timecode generator in my storyline or project somewhere? I haven't used any, anywhere in the entire Library. (Also, I'm having this issue in more than one Library.)

I do have the Timecode Generator Video Effect in my custom export preset - but that is not in the timeline anywhere.

Also, after testing some more - I guess exporting the Master File (ProRes in this case, same as the Render format) worked fine. It's the compressing down using the preset where the trouble is.
