Q: Help with connecting iPhone 6s

Hello,

Recently I got a new iPhone 6s and I have been trying to connect it with my Mac at home. However, when i plug the phone into the Mac i get a notification saying the phone cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. I checked the update and my iPhone has the latest version of iTunes 9.2.1 and my Mac is also up to date on the latest software. I am at a loss because it will not let me sync up to iTunes at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2.1

It is asking for the latest version of iTunes on your computer. You may have the latest OS X on your computer but do you have the latest version of iTunes. And it is iOS 9.2.1 on your phone and with that you get the latest version of iTunes but it is not classified as iTunes 9.2.1.

iOS 9 requires iTunes 12.3 or later (current is iTunes 12.3.2).  Current iTunes requires OS X 10.8.5 or later (current OS X is 10.11.3).

Are you certain you have the latest OS X (10.11.3) as well as iTunes (12.3.2)?

I think it may be the Mac that is not up to date. However, it says my software is Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and when i checked for updates it says my software is up to date on the Mac. The model of my Mac is a 21.5 inch, Mid 2011. What can i do to update my Mac which will hopefully allow me to then connect my iPhone? Thanks again.

You have not told us anything about your Mac - how old, etc.  Upgrade to El Capitan - if you can.  The article explains what you require to do so.  If you cannot, then consider getting a later model Mac.
