Q: How do you delete com. files if you know the name but cannot find their file location?

Hello I recently entered this into my terminal command:

 

pkgutil --pkgs | grep fuse
kextstat | grep fuse

 

This is what popped up:

 

com.github.osxfuse.pkg.Core

com.github.osxfuse.pkg.PrefPane

com.google.macfuse.core


I want to delete these com. files but I cannot find them on my system anywhere? Does anyone know how I can find them or how to delete them via the terminal? Thank you!

Look in these folders:

 

   /Library/Extensions/

   /System/Library/Extensions/

   /Home/Library/Preferences/

  /Home/Library/Applications Support/

  /Library/Applications Support/

 

I believe they actually may activate or attempt to activate OS X Fuse unless they are in the Preferences or Applications Support folders. Now, you may understand why I would recommend Easy Find. Spotlight won't find anything located in system folders unless you make a specific configuration for it. Easy Find is free and fast.

    No, you don't. Those are essential to the plug-in you are using called OS X Fuse.

    Hey Kappy,

     

    I don't want the plug-in. I uninstalled it and have been deleting all files associated with it. Those are the last three files that I want to delete but cannot find anywhere on the system. It was a plug-in that someone else installed on my computer. I have no use for it.

     

    Do you know how I can find those files because I need to delete them?

    Look in one of these locations:

     

       /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/

       /Library/LaunchAgents/

       /Library/LaunchDaemons/

     

    If they aren't there, then download Easy Find and use it to search on your startup volume.

    I did not see them in the folders specified.

     

    Rather than download another app like Easy Find my question would be: can those files do any harm at this point if I just leave them? I was not sure what that plugin was at first so that was the main concern for getting rid of it. Should I be ok if I just leave the files?

    Kappy, you are the best! I ran the program and found a TON of crap. It was all located in: /private/var/db/receipts

    Easyfind has been super helpful. At one point I had the malware Eliaho on my computer. I wanted to make sure every aspect was gone. When I type in eliaho and hit search for file contents I only get this popping up:

     

    000040.log

     

    Found under /library/application support/google/chrome/default/session storage/000040.log

    Should I delete that log? Does it have anything to do with Eliaho? I don't understand why it is finding that.

    Logs are innocuous, so you can delete it. Most likely it is a log file created when that was still installed.

     

    In the future do not delete those receipt files. Those are used to help OS X and other applications find out if they are installed and if they are eligible for updates. They are harmless, don't take up much space.

    I will delete the log. Thanks for the info about the receipt files. Just for clarification I did not delete all of them only ones associated with applications that I know that I deleted.

    One more quick question! I am trying to also completely erase everything related to the NTFS Paragon. When I type Paragon in easyfind I get this file:

     

    Localizable.strings

     

    It is under /Applications/Utilities/Grapher/Contents/Resources/Italianlproj/Localizable.str ings

     

    Should I delete the Localizable.strings file? Is it safe to leave it? I am not entirely sure as to what string files are for.

    That isn't part of Paragon. Look for NTFS as well as Paragon. You will note in the above that the item is part of /Utilities/Grapher/ application. Did you use the uninstaller that came on the disc image file?

    I just uninstalled it via the System Preferences option and then typed in Paragon and NTFS in the easyfind and deleted all the files that were related. The only one that was confusing was the file the under /utilities/grapher which I will not delete.

    It is super annoying because right when I think everything has been erased that could potentially be an issue I get screens that pop up like this attached screen shot. All I did was type in youtube an then click on the youtube ad under google and this is what popped up:

    Then I cleared and reset my browser and it disappeared. Do I still potentially have an issue with maleware? I really want to just factory reset but I am trying not to.
