Q: OS X Server Account doesn't include Mail service

Hi all,

I've been experimenting with the use of OS X Server Accounts on iOS in order to take advantage of the new File Sharing features in Server 5.0.15 and El Capitan (I'm running 10.11.3).

However, there's one small problem. When I add the account, I don't get a switch to turn on Mail, even though the users I'm adding this account for have Mail accounts:

Separately creating an IMAP account works just fine.

Any idea why? Or where can I can look to resolve this?

I don't think that ever worked correctly. I always had to treat mail separately like any other account. That said, the whole OS X Server account on iOS is still very flakey. I'd love for iOS file sharing to work reliably, but so far have had mixed results at best. Hoping for the next Server version coming up.

By removing all Access rules, Mail and Notes showed up, but it greatly lacks configuration options, which I guess is a feature.

For example, Mail is TLS over 143, which I've traditionally avoided in favour of SSL on 993, but it appears the groundswell is pushing back towards 143 and I tested to make sure that OS X Server would refuse plain text authentication and it does. It insists on STARTTLS.

However, I am having issues, strangely with only one user (out of the two I'm testing) where her Contacts will not work. Annoyingly, I can't load a CardDAV account alongside the OS X Server account (refuses saying an identical account exists), and when I do delete the OS X Account, and add the CardDAV, that doesn't even work, unless i override 8443 to 443. Strange. And inconsistent. But that's another problem for another post.

    Thanks!

Good info about the access rules. Thank you.

Confirms my findings of the whole thing being flakey. :-)
