Q: FaceTime defaults to Lync for calls

Hi guys

 

I'm having a nightmare here with Lync and FaceTime. Whenever I set FaceTime as my "default for calls" it changes back to Lync every time I close and reopen the app. Lync does the same when I change the app for telephone to FaceTime, it just reverts back to Lync.

 

I categorically do not want to use Lync for my voice calls. I was happily using FaceTime until I installed Lync for my Office365 conference calls. I'm not the only person having this issue as I've seen another question in the community entitled "Lync hijacs FaceTime default for calls" or something similar. Sadly there was no resolution.

 

This issue is seriously dampening my productivity and, quite frankly, annoying the heck out of me. If it within your capabilities to help me out here I will be eternally grateful.

    Although the problem is not the same, please follow the instructions in this support article to reset the Launch Services database.

    Instead of typing the command as directed in the article, I suggest that you copy and paste it from the web page into the Terminal window. Make sure you select the whole line before copying. One way to do that is to triple-click anywhere in the line.

    If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before proceeding. You may have to log out or restart to see a change.

    I had the same problem and hulk pants, and this worked instantly.  Thank you!
