Q: bootcamp no sound win 10

HI

Lately, i've installed windows 8.1 on my macbook pro running osx mavericks 10.9.5 and then i've upgraded it to windows 10 using windows free update. The problem is : now in my windows 10 partition, i can't figure how to make sound working nor the apple HFS+ read only drive so my mac partition can show up in windows explorer. I've tried several thing including : run boocamp assistant from bootcamp 6 version, didn't work, i've also tried to run the driver installer for the sound manually (realtek setup find in the bootcamp folder of my usb key made to install win8.1), but the setup get stuck at installing these so called realtek drivers. I opened up terminal to end the process so bootcamp installer can continue to the end, but not luck at all. Every time I check for error on the sound windows tell me to restart to make the modification take effect, but I did that several times and still no sound. Now i'm running out of idea. Even in apple website, they said that my model is able to run win10 (macbook pro mid-2012 model, non-retina). Am i missing something? or is it the apple driver didn't get any update yet to support windows 10?

Regards,

Simon.

P.-s. I don't know if it's relevant, but to make me choose to boot either on mac or windows partition at startup, I've installed rEFInd boot manager on my macbook.

    Your Audio requires Cirrus drivers for a mid 2012 Mac.

    Nope, i was on windows 8.1 before i upgraded to windows 10 and the sound back there wasn't working at all. That's why I choose to go with windows 10 to see if maybe the sound would work. But yet still no chances.

    Can you download the BC driver package from Apple using BC Assistant and check Bootcamp.xml and post the Product Version?

    Of course! from my bootcamp usb key that i created in osx mavericks 10.9.5, the product version in the bootcamp.xml is :

    <!--Information on Boot Camp build-->

    <BuildInfo BuildNumber="6133" ProductName="Boot Camp">

      <MsiInfo>

      <ProductManufacturer>Apple Inc.</ProductManufacturer>

      <ProductVersion>6.0.6133</ProductVersion>

      <ProductCode>{FCFFE6B6-BAE8-490E-88D0-097A9DA1C43D}</ProductCode>

      <Component Name="AppleOSSMgr.exe" GUID="*" SharedDLL="yes">

      <File Name="AppleOSSMgr.exe">

      <KeyPath>yes</KeyPath>

      <FileVersion>5.1.5.0</FileVersion>

    This is the correct drivers package. In the Bootcamp -> Drivers folder, there should be a Cirrus drivers package.

    Exactly! i have these two cirrus.exe files in my usb key. However, i did run them numerous times and yet still no sound. I had tried to execute them in administration mode, compatibility mode (windows xp, seven and windows 8), but windows still tell me : nous sound device detected, please restart computer to apply change when i click the speaker icon on the menu bar. But when i restart, nothing has changed.

    Does a SMC/NVRAM reset change the status? What is the possibility of backing up your files and clean-installing W10?

    In W10, can you run msconfig and look at installation mode (BIOS Mode)?

    I already tried a SMC/NVRAM reset and this hadn't worked either. About reinstalling W10? I would say that this is a no-option, because i can't install directly windows 10. Bootcamp will tell me that windows 10 is incompatible with my computer even if it is and only accept to install windows 7. But when i tried to install windows 7 (or even 8.1) with a usb key created by bootcamp the windows setup tell me windows can't be install to my hard drive, because it is not a NTFS drive (while it is!). So in the advance tab, i format my drive to NTFS using windows assistant and boum! windows can't be install to this disk because it is not a NTFS drive (non-ending loop). I figure out that was completely random. After many try (more than 10) and dozen of my hours time, I finally managed to install windows 8.1 (with no sound working) and then upgrade it to windows 10. I also figure out in the process that my windows partition won't boot if it's set on legacy mode. Only EFI work (and yet EFI boot was working only 50% of the time too)

    You are creating your own issue(s).

    1. Your Mac supports W10 - Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support .

    2. The W8.1/W10 can be clean installed on your Mac. BCA only creates a FAT partition, it needs to be formatted to NTFS during Windows installation. Thsi is expected and normal behavior as documented https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/assistant/6.0/ .

    3. The 2012 Mac is not a UEFI Mac. There is kludge solution for this specific model.

    4. EFI Boot does not support Audio on the 2012 model. It does on 2013 and later models.

    5. W10 upgrade of a EFI-boot W8.1 on 2012 models will not fix Audio issues either.

    6. I have W8.1 in MBR/BIOS on a 2012 non-Retina 13-in MBP, and audio works as I posted the Device Manager listing earlier.

    If my macbook support windows 10, then why BCA doesn't allow me to install it?

    Do you need rEFInd? Can you post the BIOS mode settings from msconfig? This will help narrow down where the issue is. In Device Manager under View column, if you enable "Show Hidden Devices", do you see any Audio devices?
