Verizon Razr V3m Issues... Solved!

I bought my Razr today thinking I finally found a good deal on a phone that could sync up wirelessly with my iSync info. For a good 5 hours, I found I was wrong. If you google around, you can find people who have had issues with this model of phone not working at all with iSync, and posting scripts that might fix it. Verizon's locking in with their "V-Cast" was said to lock out iSync being supported. This was repeated back to me from Verizon reps and I even went so far as to email Motorola for a fix (like that's ever going to happen).

HOWEVER, I got fed up and pulled the battery hoping to find the memory, and then something odd happened. I heard a beep from the receiver and decided to stop. Upon putting the battery back in and turning the phone back on, iSync started working with a Bluetooth connection.

I had tried everything from deleting the identity of my Powerbook from the phone, turning the Bluetooth off and on on both devices, trying out plugins, restarting my Mac, and none of it did any good.

Was the restart for the phone all that was needed? Anyone think this will be an issue again?

I had a similar experience. Thanks for your post! I got a new RAZR V3m (Verizon) a couple of weeks ago. ISync worked fine. I thought there was an unrelated problem with that phone and they replaced it with no problem. When I tried to use the Bluetooth setup assistant on the new replacement phone, I was getting a message that no services were supported. I took the battery out and then re-installed it like you did and this time the Bluetooth setup assistant said iSync was enabled. After restarting iSync and another battery removal, iSync worked Hurrah!!!

Same thing happened to me. After several unsuccessful attempts with the edits on whopack.com, I realized that I did not have the microSD installed. As I had to pull the battery to install the miscoSD, iSync worked after the razr re-booted (microSD wasn't the fix, re-booting the razr was).

....now if I can only figure out how to get my all-day ical items to sync to the razr.

I'm so glad I found this post. When I first got my RAZR V3m (Verizon), iSync worked via bluetooth perfectly fine. A few months later, I deleted my devices from iSync and the phone would no longer sync via bluetooth.

I think it's a bit nuts that I've got to turn the phone off and then back on to get it to work, but hey, it's working again!

This is really cool - it worked like a charm! I also have the Verizon Razor V3M and was searching all over for hacks to unlock the sync - there are some PC applications to do it but this is just incredibly simple...pop the battery off - put it back on and sync away!

Verizon must put the "lock" in when you first activate your phone with them...

Now if I could only figure out how to sync pics out of iPhoto with it - or songs out of iTunes with it, that would be great!

Believe me when I say, "I've looked." There is almost no way to enable bluetooth file transfer (allows you to get pics and audio files on and off the phone) with this phone and Verizon as your provider.

Every other service provider allows you to use the bluetooth file transfer that was built into the Razr by Motorola, the same ability that lets you sync contacts and some calenders. Verizon has had Motorola purposefully disable this functioon so that you are forced to use their V-crap service. This way they can charge you outlandish rates with no other door. It's the same reason they weren't able to accept a contract with Apple to use the iPhone.

Just about every work-around on the web that I've see will void your warranty. There was one, however, that didn't seem like it would. It required you to buy the extra memory for the phone, and after you've got that bit of hardware working, connect it to your computer using a special connection and do some reordering of directories so that when the phone "sees" a certain folder, it will see the new one you created. However, this is one only worked to add your own ringtones from MP3 files.

Someone may have come up with one since I've looked. At any rate, I don't think it's worth the effort. With my current rates, their service in general isn't worth the money. My term of service contract with them is up in a year and my iPod is shot. I may see about an iPhone when the time comes. Let's just see if that price decides to drop, eh?

I found this online (quoted) and supposedly it works and does not void warranty -

"I bought a Motorola V3m from Verizon. The V3m has the microSD/TransFlash card function enabled, amongst a few other things. Verizon has disabled OBEX along with the ability to transfer mp3 files via the transflash. I have a workaround, however, that I came up with.
Convert your CD/MP3/WhateverAudioYouHave into a WAV file. Clip it to about 30 seconds or less. Then, when saving the file (still in .wav format) set the sample frequency to 22050 Hz, mono. This is your ringtone file.
Visit Verizon’s GetPix website and go to PixPlace. You can generate messages (picture messages with sound, too.. get where I’m going?). Create a message to your own phone number, with your sound clip inserted. They don’t allow mp3 sounds to be inserted, thus the need for the .wav file.
You’ll receive your txt message with attached sound. I’ve found the quality suffers a bit but it still beats having Verizon take every penny they can while FORCING me to buy their services. It’s robbery."

Seems to me that Verizon should be legally obligated to be compliant to anyone who asks the "lock out" to be disabled since the V3M ships that way from Motorola. It like selling you a television and only allowing it to tune into one network. This seems like an opportunity for a class action lawsuit - I would certainly sign up!
