Mar 8, 2016 7:25 AM in response to shokol8by Philly_Phan,Jailbroke?
A DFU restore will usually recover the phone:
- Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer if it isn't there already ( (you must have Windows 7 or later or OS X 10.8.5 or later)
- Reboot your computer
- Disable any antivirus and firewalls
- Launch iTunes
- Connect the device cable to a USB port on the computer (not to a USB hub), but DO NOT CONNECT TO THE DEVICE YET
- Press and hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time for exactly 10 seconds, until the screen turns black, then release the SLEEP button but continue holding the HOME button. If an Apple logo appears while holding both buttons you held for too long; start over.
- While still holding the HOME button connect the other end of the cable to the device
- You should see a message in iTunes saying a phone in Recovery mode has been detected (it may take up to a minute for the message to appear). When you see that message release the HOME button and the device should restore. When asked DO NOT restore a backup; set up as a new phone.
Try several times if it doesn't work the first time; getting it into DFU mode is tricky.

Mar 8, 2016 11:29 PM in response to Philly_Phanby shokol8,I don't know if it was jailbroken, as I bought it on ebay, but as i mentioned before, i have tried all theses steps, and it didn't work!
When I tried to restore it, it restores to 75% and then stops and says "this iphone could not be restored, error (50) occured" so I check youtube video, where they all say put it in DFU mode.
As I could not succeed at first, i thought maybe something wrong with the home button (in fact i was not doing the correct manip, here is a video how to do it right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wATfKL2g..., well at least for my case)
So I looked how to enter DFU mode without home button, found a program called redsnow that could do it, and for that I needed the ISPW file, that is the iphone firmware, and you got to chose the right one depending on iphone model and iOS.
But Itunes should automatically download it for you, and you should be able to find it
in this location
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
anyway I went to another site where things were a bit more complicated,
http://www.iphonehacks.com/download-ipho...
as they asked if you want to download the GSM or CDMA version, depending on your phone model number, so I checked mine, the model is A1507, a GSM number, I have checked it here
https://support.anki.com/hc/en-us/articl...
but the ISPW that itunes downloads is the version for the CDMA model!
I have tried to DL the correct ISPW and try to restore from pressing Alt + Restore to select the ISPW but it says the iphone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible!
So maybe error 50 could come for the wrong ISPW? And why the right ISPW is not compatible?

Mar 9, 2016 12:32 AM in response to shokol8by Ingo2711,Sorry, but firmware files can only be downloaded and installed via iTunes. If the phone has been jailbroken in the past, this might be the reason for not being able to install the correct firmware again:

Mar 9, 2016 2:11 AM in response to Ingo2711by shokol8,Yeah but I don't know if the iPhone was jailbreaked but from what I have read on forums, it happens to a lot of non jailbrokoken phones, and concerning ispw files they are the old firmwares from Apple so nothing wrong with them. For my part I don't know what jailbreaking is really, what is the purpose of it, what it does offer and it has never picked my interest, I'm fine with my apps. Maybe I should check what it is about, and if really the iPhone has been jailbrojken how to revert it, BUT, that will be in the case it has been jailbroken, and how can I know that?

Mar 9, 2016 2:43 AM in response to shokol8by Ingo2711,As mentioned above, only DFU mode could help to restore your phone to the actual iOS version. Can you try those steps on a different computer?
If you are getting the same results and going through these troubleshooting tips does not help either, your phone can't be used anymore.

Mar 9, 2016 4:08 AM in response to Ingo2711by shokol8,I Don't know if I had make myself clear on the two posts I already wrote, yes I have put it in DFU mode and it hasn't solved my problem, yes I have done all the step, but I hardly beleieve, even tho I have done it, that the cause will a bad USB port or a bad cable, or then that will indicate their weak sensitivity by nature! And I honestly don't think they are!
Secondly, to say it's dead, a few months past, thats what people said about error 53 till apple said it was an error caused by the software if you were modifying your phone hardware, so I don't believe it's dead, I'm pretty sure there is a solution that no one have found or shared Yet. If your bios is defective in your computer, it doesn't means it's completely dead, you can still change the bios chip.
And finally I thought I made myself clear enough, that I went through all the steps, to make sure to not hear about these mainstream solution that rarely work!
i Could either try doing the recovery while my phone is in a bowl of rice while I shake the bowl and sing hallelujah I'm pretty sure the result will be the same ( and no my phone isn't water damaged, it was just a joke), but thanks for your help and your concerns anyway :-)

Mar 9, 2016 5:14 AM in response to shokol8by Ingo2711,1. I understood all the steps you took, here are some more to try:
Resolve issues between iTunes and third-party security software - Apple Support
2. Users are not supposed to modify the hardware of the phone, especially when security features like the Touch ID button got changed.
3. If your device has been jailbroken, the software on the phone could have been modified to an extent, that iTunes can't install any original firmware anymore, which would also cause error 50. If this is the case, you can't do anything about it.

Mar 9, 2016 6:43 AM in response to Ingo2711by shokol8,Hello Ingo,
1. no i got no problem on that side as my iPad got not problem to be restored or synced
2.I know where you come from, but understand that when you are not under apple warranty anymore, it's not to everyone power/willing to pay half the price of what was the cost of your device new, to change such a little piece. If the same option was occurring for your car, every time you had a problem with it, believe me you'll be willing to find a plan B for cheaper!
And I got to add to that genius bar people are not electronic professional, I went there once, because my trackpad was stuck, they changed it , and i paid for it ! 7 months later, same problem occurred! It happens that I should have paid twice to change my trackpad on my mac, because it got stuck again and was unusable! I told them the second time, that they should change it for free as the first time they changed it, it didn't fix the problem for long!
They said no, so, I used a mouse instead.
Anyway, a year and half later, I realised the mac battery was seriously expanding, brought it to them, they wouldn't take responsibility for it, and say they could change it for money! I said no, took my mac back home and changed it and on my own, this time, and guess what, the trackpad was no more stuck and working fine again! All along it was stuck because the battery was slowly expanding over time!
So I have learned one thing from that, don't take for granted an advise from someone who knows nothing about what he is talking about, check his background first, because everyone can read a step by step script, but that doesn't help to know what causes the problem at the first place!
So that drives us to statement 3, as we don't know what causes error 50, and apple isn't really clear on that, because that happens to more non jailbreak device, we can't assume any presumption about it, i know where you coming from, but only time and real professionals will give us a solution!

Mar 9, 2016 7:21 AM in response to shokol8by Ingo2711,You are free to choose a 3rd party repair shop and ask them to fix your phone, but after a 3rd party opened the device, all Out-of-Warranty options given by Apple will be gone as well, and Apple will refuse to do any service on that device.
Because of that fact, nobody here will encourage you to let a 3rd party service fix your device, unless you have tried the general troubleshooting provided in the Apple Support help articles.
Instead of ranting about the people behind the Apple Genius Bar, take a look at this post, maybe you should also let Apple check the phone.

Please point to an Apple document that supports your allegation.

Apple may charge you a diagnostic fee (including shipping charges) as described in the Country Variation table, below (“Diagnostic Fee”), if Apple inspects your product and determines that your product does not require service, (ii) your product has failed due to or has incompatibilities with software or data residing or recorded on your product (iii) service is required due to the failure of parts that are neither supplied by Apple nor Apple-branded, (iii) additional labor or parts are required that were not specified in the original estimated charges and you do not agree to authorize service based on Apple’s revised estimated charges, or (iv) service cannot be performed because the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed or the product has failed due to accident, abuse, liquid spill or submersion, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider), unauthorized modification, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference, fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external causes (“Service Exclusions”). Mar 9, 2016 7:56 AM in response to Ingo2711by shokol8,Hahaha if you are talking about John Buck comment on your thread link, as he said, the guy has done nothing special but to connect to his computer, and like by magic 'voila' it works! So I imagine they got permissions on their computer that is restricted to them, and like John says its not, like dancing, with cable and USB for hours, that's gonna solve the problem, so it's an apple problem and not an iPhone problem! But still, thanks I might do what this guy has done, and thanks to you for that thread, but if it works I will be a bit furious about the fact I could not have dome it from home! Plus I'd like to know the reason behind this issue! Anyway thanks for your time, I'll keep you updated if it works, maybe in a month time cos I got no time for now to book a RDV With the Genius Bar!

Yes, you're absolutely correct. If such maintenance has caused the failure, Apple will not repair the product.
