Q: adding streaming address to playlist

iTunes makes me feel so stupid, not intuitive at all, at least for a PC user...

I found a streaming address of french songs (once upon a time it was listed as a radio station on my playlist but then disappeared and failed to find it again) and followed instructions for adding it, Control U. When I do that it starts some other radio station, not the one signaled by the URL. And the only way to identify the  station playing is to look at the box at the top center of iTunes app not any of the stations on any playlist which typically have a speaker icon for the station currently playing.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure you're doing anything wrong. I'm also not sure exactly what it is you want to be able to do. Add another station, locate and remove the one you have, or something else? If you have an outdated URL it is possible that whoever owns the domain has set things up to automatically redirect the request to one of their active stations.

I want to add a 'station' to my playlist that is a URL link for streaming the content that I want to hear. The URL is current. I can stream using that URL. I want to put that in my playlist so that I can go there directly without going to the website.

If I use 'Control U' (that seems to be the way to do what I want to do??) to add the URL it starts some other station that is on the playlist and the URL has disappeared - to where I do not know.

I hope this is clear enough.

When I try it here Ctrl+U opens the dialog and when I enter the URL it starts playing and is added to a playlist called Internet Streams so I could find it again. What is the URL you are trying to add?

The test URL I used was to an m3u file which then lead to a different stream URL.

    Pasted:    http://www.listenlive.eu/bbcradio1.m3u

    Saved:     http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbcmedia_radio1_mf_p

The website where I can connect to streaming:      http://www.wumb.org/programs/streams.php

Tab, "24/7 Music Streams" / L'Air du Temps (on right) / Listen Live (on left) / select station "WUMB 91.9 French Accent":

    http://player.streamguys.com/wumb/sgplayer/player.php

When I paste in to iTunes it does what I am writing about.

This looks like the correct address for that particular channel: http://player.streamguys.com/wumb/sgplayer/?s=5 however that only works on their website where it opens a player window. If I paste the URL into iTunes nothing happens at all. I found what is probably an old Internet Radio link from WUMB for their folk station http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/play.pls?stationid=wumb919&tag=iTunes but that doesn't work either. My guess is they've gone to html 5 and are not supporting iTunes any more. Searching for an alternate way in I found that what you're probably getting is their main WUMB 91.1 stream rather than the one you want. You could try contacting them to see if there is an iTunes compatible URL for the L'Air du Temps channel.

OK. This seems to be a reasonable answer. Thank you.

Since I am talking to someone more versed in these things than i am, I am tempted to ask if there is someway to paste/combine "that particular channel url" to station's url to get the station to play in iTunes? I have to admit that I have not contacted WUMB - yet, days are too short. If I learn anything useful, I will post it here.

The crowd's collective info leads me to greater light. Thank you.

I tried really hard. If there were a way to get a working URL out of that page and into iTunes I'd have copied the address here.
