the actual image of each individual photo is not displaying on my desktop. It displays just the generic JPEG icon image. In other words every item has the same generic as opposed to the specific image of the photo.

My photo images that I save on my desktop are not showing up as individual images that I can see. They are just showing up as the generic JPEG image. That is all the images are coming up not as preview. All my settings are the same as always. It is just suddenly happening.
Go to the View ➙ Show View Options menu item
make sure this checkbox is checked:
Old Toad: I couldn't find a reply button to reply to you about our recent conversation about my photo images not appearing on my desk top. I rebooted in safe mode as you suggested. Only a handful of images appeared. The rest were still JPEG generic.
Don't pay attention to the first part of the reply. Some how when I went to reply there was no reply button. That is what that was all about. So, I rebooted in safe mode....some photos up, the rest are still generic images of JPEG.
Have you rebooted? If so and it didn't help boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, see if there's any change and then reboot normally.
Your post is not clear - this it the Phtos for Mac forum - doe this involve the Photos Application in some way?

The settings are as you indicated. I have usually gotten the photo images up. This just started. The settings have not changed.

boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair the disk. Reboot normally and check again.
No, didn't work. Now all the photos on desktop are JPEG GENERIC.
Went back to view on finder and unchecked preview and waited a bit...then rechecked preview and it worked. Thanks so much Old Toad, father of all macfrogs.::))
