Q: Process fails almost immediately.

After preparation, the copy process only completes about 600Mb and crashes out. Error message states an item cannot be converted and a newer version of iWork must be installed. Is iWork even around anymore? Help!

iWorks is still around. Try using Disk Utility/Restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition.
