how to stop apple music from downloading my entire itunes library?

I've had an issue with apple music and iCloud music library. Im just switching from Spotify and Google Play Music. I wanted to consolidate my entire library into one streaming service that also could dongle my iTunes library. Apple Music literally did exactly what I needed. (Google play also did the job but im switching my OS of my life to Apple because Futures music drops here 🙂.) my problem is that when I added iCloud music library into the equation it tries to download my ENTIRE 228 GB ITUNES LIBRARY TO MY 64 GB IPhone. I didn't request to have these songs download. I thought it would just download the songs when I played them or I could select songs to download independently. its wasting my data on my iPhone because even when I have the setting to download over cellular off it still downloads these songs. As if it just ignores everything and downloads regardless of me canceling it or stopping the songs they continue to download. I had to just turn off icloud music library entirely to stop it. but now I cant stream my local library nor save songs to my iPhone to playback. I have to stream everything everytime to even have music with apple music. I understand this is a fairly new service but this issue has been ongoing and its literally costing ppl pointless dollars in this data minded world. plz fix.

I have noticed this issue for the past few weeks and just started discussing it with an Apple Support tech. It is apparently a know issue - unfortunately without a known solution. Fortunately I had started with iCloud Music Library before this problem started, so my iPhone and iPad only try to download anything that I add now, and not my entire library.

I have the same issue I always used icloud music library and imatch while that was available. I recently setup a new itunes library because my old one was getting out of whack and now on my family plan for a family of 6 it is DOWNLOADING ALL IT CAN AND FILLING UP OUR LOCAL STORAGE. Obviously the data element to this is insane, if i delete it tries to download another batch.

The only resolution I have as of now is to stop using icloud music library, which *****. if anyone has a solution please post.

Just got an email from an Apple Tech that I have been "conversing" with the past few days with this exact issue.

Hey Steve!

I got word back from the engineers specifically about the automatic downloads and they said they are currently investigating

the specific issue and it will most likely be resolved with an update in the near future. They are still currently receiving tickets

on the issue to gather as much information as possible to resolve it so we definitely did the right thing by filling it out to send

it up to them. They also recommended a couple possible remedies in the meantime which also might be worth trying.

Open the Music app and navigate to My Music. Is there a ‘banner' across the top stating “Downloading X songs”?

If so, tap on the banner and at the bottom there should be a “Cancel All Downloads” button.

If there is no banner in the Music app, enable Airplane mode (you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hit the

airplane logo to enable, it should light up). Once enabled, go to the iTunes Store app, navigate to More (the three dots “…”)

then tap on Downloads. The downloads should fail over Airplane mode and automatically remove themselves.

Let me know if any of these work for you!
