I have just bought a new Samsung U28E590 4K display for my 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.11.3 (Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB).
The question is, how do you get the Mac Mini to output the correct resolution for 4K (3840 x 2160) via HDMI?
I've been searching around and found a number of articles but they relate to older OS.
Any help would be appreciate!
The HDMI port on 2012 Mini only support 1920x1200 max.
You may be able to get 4K@30Hz with the proper mini displayport>HDMI adopter. However, it is not clear if it works with Mavericks and later. See:

You don't, 2560 x 1600 is the maximum supported resolution using a Displayport connector.
