cnet videos not loading

Hi all, I am running el capitan (OSX 10.11.3) and safari 9.0.3 on a rmbp early 2015 and I have NOT installed flash.

some websites, specifically cnet.com will not load HTML5 videos. They work on my ipad and iphone but on my macbook pro, they just wont load. I have a few other sites that refuses to load HTML5 videos as well.

What can I do to fix that? Am I the only one with this problem?

Thanks for your help!

Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

HI Eric and thank you for your speedy reply!

I tried restarting several times before but it did not change.

I created a new admin account, and tried again: No luck!

I booted in safe mode and tried with my normal account: Again, no-go!

At this point, I am considering a re-install of the OS!

My issue is not normal, right? I though it might be some sites that refuses to load HTML5 content on safari. Youtube videos load with an HTML5 player, for example.

I am also considering a reinstall because I'm having a small glitch that's not major but annoying: Sometimes when I reopen my laptop from sleep, the screen just stays black. I have to close it down and wait for 5 seconds before opening it, then I get my log screen.

Let me know if you think that's the next move!

Thanks again for your help :-)

All right so, this is now officialy in the ridiculous area:

I did the first part of the "safari corruption" and it is STILL not working on a general page (ex: http://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s7/)

BUT the video page now loads normally (http://www.cnet.com/videos/)

I have ublock installed and it seems that Cnet detects ublock is running and just blocks everything (The video page included)

BUT if I turn it off, the "videos" page loads videos normally (ad, then video) but general review videos from the review page don't load. (I get a "Flash required" message)

At this point, I'm getting pretty convinced that this is NOT a safari issue, but a Cnet issue.

Let me know what you think, and thanks again for all your help!
