Low volume while on calls

I have the latest update and I have an iPhone 6. This started last week where I can barely hear the other person while on a call.

The volume is set to the highest setting. Prior to this I would leave it half way up and it was plenty loud.

I reset my phone and did all the updates. Nothing changed. Yes, I removed the plastic piece that covers that part of the phone when I bought it.

Please help. I can only use my phone with an earpiece or on speakerphone.

Dial 611 and call customer support to verify the volume is low.

Take a front facing video and the audio is generally mute or low as well.

The receiver likely has debris in it.

Take a toothbrush (new) and brush the receiver firmly and test the 611 call again to test the volume.

I followed your instructions and it's not much better. Thank you though.

I made an appointment to take my phone in. Support seems to think the speaker has gone bad in the phone and said it could be easily replaced.
