Q: MacBook Air 13" - Trouble w/ HP LA2405WG Monitor

I have 2 Macbook Airs - both 13", both running same OS (El Capitan). For all intents and purposes they are identical.

When I connect my personal Air to my external monitor (HP Compaq LA2405WG) via VGA, I get a perfect resolution on the external monitor.

When I connect my work Air to the same monitor via the same VGA cable, I get a resolution that's pixelated (4x3). I get fewer resolution output options, and they are all 4:3 instead of 16x9 on my personal Air.

Is there any way to correct this? From what I can understand, it has to be a setting, because the laptops are identical, but are providing different resolution options.

Also, when I connect my personal Air, the external display is called "LA2405", and when I connect my work Air, it's simply called "Display". I've scoured the internet for a driver for the monitor, but every website states that there is no such driver for macbooks.

Please help.

    Hi Cybersindhi1087,

I understand your two MacBook Air computers are getting different results when connected to your HP external monitor using the same VGA cable.  The resource below provides some troubleshooting steps for your display settings, including starting your Mac in Safe mode and starting over with the default settings for the display.   If these steps do not resolve your issue, there is a link at the end of the article to contact one of our technical support advisors to delve into this further for you.

Thanks for the reply, judysings! This helps, but doesn't answer my question.

For some reason, my personal computer recognizes the monitor by name, and my work computer doesn't. They are both 13" MacBook Airs running the same OS and have the same monitor, connection, and cables.

Personal Computer just knows its a LA2405, and work computer calls it monitor with fewer screen display settings. Strange!

Any help on how I could get them both to identify the monitor as LA2405 would be greatly appreciated.
