I-photo Library Corrupt

Hello there,

I am very new to the apple community forum. I have tried looking at the advice on previous threads but none of them seem to work. Basically I had 2 i-photo libraries. One I have managed to get my photos from and the other stated it was too old. I tried the i-photo upgrader app but it would not let me click on the required photo library file. I then tried the i-photo manager app but when it imported it told me I had over 1600 photos but all of them were corrupt and could not be displayed. This is the message I get when I click on the file.

OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Which version of iPhoto created the library? You need to run iPhoto Library upgrader, if the iPhoto library has been last opened by iPhoto 7.1.2 or an even older version. Then you need iPhoto Library upgrader to prepare the library.

Where is the library stored, that you cannot open? is it in your Pictures folder or on an external drive?

The screenshot you posted looks like you were trying to import the iPhoto Library.

To access the library, open it in iPhoto, do not import it. Launch iPhoto while holding down the options key and then select the library from the library chooser panel.

So basically I moved the library to my desktop as I wasn't able to select it using the upgrader from where it was in the photo section and I still cannot select it on the upgrader.

It won't open in i-photo it comes ups up with that error message.

How are you trying to open it in iPhoto? Don't use "File > Import" in iPhoto. Try "File > Switch to Library". Is that what produced the error message?

So I tried the switch open and it lets me select it but when I press open nothing happens

The iPhoto Library you have selected in the screenshot is showing only 2.1MB of size. That is a new, empty library without any photos.

Do you have a different iPhoto Library in another folder?

So I had to create a new one in my photo section and then there was the old one i am trying to open

The library in your screenshot is an empty library since it's only 2.1 MB. Actually it's less than a new, empty iphoto library that starts out at 7.5 MB.

I wouldn't worry about it and delete it.

This is what it gave me when I loaded it onto iphoto manager - Over 1000 photos but when i try to open them this happens

Open the library package as shown in this screenshot

When you get inside look for the Originals or Masters folder. Look inside any subfolder in those folders for image files that might exist. If there are none your library is gone.

So I've opened it and there are hundred of albums and folders but nothing in them ... I don't understand why in the file manager it shows as over 1000 image files but I cannot read them or they are corrupt?

Those are placeholders in the database for missing files. Since most image files are often around 2 MB in size how could there be any in the library that is only 2.1 MB in size. it's history so move on.
