how can i get bbc iplayer on my Apple TV 3.
I've noticed BBC Iplayer is now available on the latest version of Apple TV but how can I get it on my Apple TV version 3?

You don't. You cannot add apps yourself to older Apple Tv's, only Apple Tv 4th Generation has access to the App store.
Apple would need to add it to older Apple Tv's via a software update assuming BBC provided a version for older Apple Tvs.
