cannot erase or unsupervise or restore passcode-protected iPad

a student created a passcode for a supervised iPad, and now I'm unable to restore the device to factory defaults and start over. I tried update in iTunes, restore in Configurator, but get message cannot "unable to verify supervision state". I decided to try to unsupervise the device, but can't because . . .can you guess? . . . that's right! . . ."device is password-protected"

i will now attempt to procure an adult beverage while hopefully waiting for a way around this

iPad 2, iOS 8

Hi strayschool,

Have you tried putting the iPad into DFU mode? Here's how...

  1. Launch iTunes on your computer and plug your iPad into to your computer.
  2. Power Off the iPad by pressing and holding the Power button on top of the iPad for 3 seconds and then swiping the slider to power it off.
  3. Once it is off, press and hold the Power button on the top of the iPad for 3 seconds. After 3 seconds, press and hold down on both the Home button and Power button for 10 seconds.
  4. After 10 seconds, let go of the Power Button but keep holding the Home button for 5 seconds. Then release the Home button.
  5. The screen should stay black, and the iPad should now be in DFU mode. ITunes on your computer should now say that it detects your device and you can restore it.

If you see the "Plug in to iTunes" screen, then you are in Recovery mode (not DFU) and you should try the steps above again. But maybe Recovery mode is enough for you to bypass the passcode protected iPad and allow you to restore it... Give it a shot.

Hope this helps!!
