Q: Photos disappeared.

Hi, everyone.

This morning I took a large number of photos with my iPhone 5. As soon as I arrived home I connected my iPhone to my computer and tried to download the photos but no new photos showed up in iPhoto. I also tried to find the photos in my iPhone but I can't seem to find them there either.

Does anyone have any idea as to what happened and if I might be still able to find my photos ?

Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

I think you were looking in the album section and not in the photo tab. For more help go to: Find your photo

After you took the photos were you able to see them on the phone? I am wondering if the Camera App worked at the time. Does it work now?

If by chance your phone backed up to iCloud after you took the photos, they could (possibly) be there but I doubt it. Do you have iCloud Photo Library enabled? If so they might be there but they would also show on your phone. If not they would appear in Camera Roll and if not there ????

You could try a Forced Restart, it cures a lot of ills and maybe, just maybe, this one.

Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose anything.

    elcpu,

I didn't try to see the photos right after I took them. I assumed they were, as they should be, store in the iPhone.

In regards to the Camera App it appeared to be working at the time, as it always has. However, I just tried to take a photo and the photo was taken by the app but I can't find it. I also checked iCloud and found some photos there, too. I don't remember how those photos find their way to iCloud since I never configured iCloud for photos. In fact, I have intentionally turned off iCloud for photos on my devices to avoid using iCloud with photos. Anyway, the photos I took this morning are not there in iCloud either.

I also tried the Forced Restart as you recommended but the situation remained the same.

These photos were very importante to me. I have noticed lately (past few years) that I have been having a much larger share of problems with Apple products.

    Thank you.

I would have done the same, the photos should have been there.

Try this, little to lose... Double click on the Home button, on the multitasking window that opens up, locate the Camera and Photos Apps. Swipe both of them up all the way to force close them. Click on Home once and do another Forced Restart. See it your Camera App works now... it could as this is different than what I suggested before.

If not you could have a defective camera (hardware) or a corrupted Camera App or system. I would Restore the phone first as New and then from backup so see if this fixes it.

I have had my latest iPhone replaced and my iPad replaced twice...

    Thank you.

    elcpu,

That did it. I first quit all apps and made sure they were not loaded or running in the background as you suggested. After that I forced a restart again and this time it worked. The photos appeared on the iPhone and I have also been able to download them into iPhoto (I am not currently using the newer Photo app).

Great help, elcpu. I really needed these images. Thank you very much for your help.
