Click and hold the green button in the far upper-left corner of the application window. Drag the window into either the left corner or right corner of your screen. If you have another application open that works in split-view, do the same for that one, dragging it to the opposite corner. You'll know if that application can be used in split view because when you hover over the green button, it will show a double-ended arrow, rather than a cross.
