can you save your photos on your ipad2 directly onto a scan disc without first putting them in icloud or your computer?

I have an older ipad2 and I just discovered that in order to download my photos and videos onto my computer I have to install icloud for windows on my computer. I am not tech savy at all and so all these instructions are very difficult for me to understand. I want to know if I can somehow attach a scan disc directly to my ipad 2 and download my photos and videos onto it without having to go through icloud(which I really don't understand how to use). My ipad 2 is up to date with the latest version. Any laymen explanation of if, or how, I can get my photos onto a scan disc so that I can preserve them for printing and for future reference would be greatly appreciated.
