My emails keep coming back after they gave been deleted

Over the last couple of days my emails have been coming back into the inbox when I have deleted them. I have tried trashing them as well but after about 5 minutes they all pop up again

iPhone email fix

Goto Settings

Scroll down to Accounts and passwords

Under accounts choose your iCloud account

Scroll to bottom of page

Under advanced choose the Mail option

Under outgoing mail server choose advanced

Choose deleted mailbox

Check the trash icon under my iPhone

Under move discarded messages

Check the deleted mailbox

This seem to solve the problem for me

It seems that leaving your emails to be deleted on the server is the problem

Latest changes to OS changed 'settings' for how the phone 'fetches' data via the cloud. I had to go into settings-accounts & passwords and turn off 'fetch new data' in order to get my phone to correctly delete a message. Apple support was completely unable to help with this, I eventually discovered it on my own and was able to fix.

Hi

.me emails are usually set up as IMAP accounts.

Check your settings to make sure that deleted emails are not stored on the server.

Check that deleted emails are deleted from server when exit Mail.

Make sure that all machines that access the email account also have these settings.

Hopefully all your deleted emails will then disappear into the ether, never to be seen again

I had this problem too with hundreds of old emails dating back to 2013 reappearing. But my emails are also downloaded to my PC and the email client on that deletes them from the server. I did check and they had gone.

The solution was that the phone was backing them up to the iCloud storage.

I had to go to Settings - iCloud - iCloud Drive >, then scroll down to "Mail" and slide the button left to switch off backups.

It took several goes to delete them all. It seems that the "Delete All" option in Mail only gets rid of a limited number at a time.

I have an iphone 6s running 10.2 with several types of email accounts. (Exchange/POP). My pop account was filled with 2,000 emails plus and couldn't find an easy way to delete as the "trash all" on the inbox has gone missing as discussed previously and then the trick about pressing the move button with one email selected wasn't working with the new update. I deleted the POP email account entirely several times only to have 15,000 emails show up. Went into server and they were all deleted but kept having the same problem. They would literally just come right back when I added the email account again. Turns out they were coming back from my ipad which is an icloud feature that yns email, pictures among other things. After an hour or so with tech support we disabled mail by toggling the mail to "off". Settings, Icloud, toggle mail to "off". Problem fixed and went back to ipad and deleted that pop account there. No more problems.
