I was waiting for a file from someone, it arrived - in a format I didn't recognise - and I clicked on it, twice because I couldn't open it. I did a security scan later that day, and it was revealed as Trojan.HTML.Phishing.LG. Does anyone know what this is supposed to do? The sites that look as though they could tell me are not sites I'd touch with a bargepole! Thanks in advance.
Did the person you received it from send it to you from a Windows computer? Windows viruses can't do any damage to Mac computers, but you could infect another Windows user if it gets back to them.
it won't do anything on Mac OS, it's basically a program OS X won't be able to read or do anything with even if you forced it open.
Do you use your mac to boot into Windows? If so you could cause a problem if it was detected when you were in Windows and should be removed with an updated Windows Anti-Virus solution, otherwise you can delete it on your mac there are no repercussions, and you should not install any AV on your Mac as it doesn't work as well as the Windows offerings and it's not really useful on mac, it causes more harm than good right now.
what does it do? It's a trojan with a payload, possibly a keyloger or screen capture or something worse that someone can watch and record your infected WINDOWS computer if it's not removed. On Mac there is nothing this trojan can do, at all.

From a Windows computer, so hopefully no harm done. I use Bitdefender AV - recommended by an Apple man - which is how I knew it had landed. It is LG rather than AK, if that makes any difference. I've added a screenshot of how Bitdefender dealt with it, and I deleted it. Thank you very much for your reassurance.
Yes, from a Windows PC. I do use Windows - Word and stuff - on my Mac, but can't remember if I opened/wrote anything between the time it arrived, and I clicked on it, and the time I set Bitdefender at it.
