Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
If you need to unlock files in your user account before saving changes to them, try the following steps to correct the permissions on your home folder:
- Use Software Update to install all updates until it reports "Your Software is Up To Date".
- Open the Get Info window for the account's Home folder:
- In Finder, select Go > Home
- In Finder, select File > Get Info
- If needed, click the disclosure triangle to expand the "Sharing & Permissions:" section of the Get Info window.
- If needed, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the Get Info window, then enter an admin user name and password and click OK.
- From the Action menu (
) at the bottom of the Get Info window, choose "Apply to enclosed items…" - Click OK in the confirmation sheet.
- Wait for the process to complete.
From OS X: If you see issues after using "Apply to enclosed items" on your Home folder

Mar 12, 2016 10:15 AM in response to jeremy_vby CloudsRestWalk,Hi, Jeremy,
Thanks lots for taking the time to reply. I think the issue I have is something different. There haven't been any problems with permissions, administrator/other users, etc.. The list of symptoms accompanying the subject includes files that were locked after changes were made to permissions. Also, all software is regularly kept up to date.
I thought the "locked by default" applying to all document files was a new Pages protocol (this doesn't occur with Word docs), and that there might be an option to eliminate/change the setting. If this is, indeed, the case, I'd really like to know how to use it, and will keep searching.
Again, I appreciate your response.
