Q: New cellphone number to verify cloud id?

I Keep getting messages about using the cloud and the key chain. A verrification code I need is being texted to an old phone number. I can't find anyplace to change the number. I changed it in my contacts, that is, the number for my cell phone under my own contact entry. Still get messages with the old number. Is there any other place I can change this?  It also gives me an option to verify through support but when I tap that I get some FAQ.

 

Where to now, Boss? This is an iPad Air with up to date software.

    On a Mac?

     

    System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain

     

    From there you can adjust your phone number.

     

    Might be the same with the Windows iCloud applet.

    The following from Get help using iCloud Keychain - Apple Support may help:


    Make sure that the correct phone number is associated with your account:

      • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced. (In iOS 7, tap Settings > iCloud > Account > Keychain.) Make sure the phone number under Verification Number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.
      • On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences. Click iCloud, then click Options next to Keychain. (In OS X Mavericks or earlier, click iCloud, then click Account Details.) Make sure the phone number under Verification number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.

    I Was afraid it would be something like that. There is no advanced tab or button on the keychain page. The status on the "keychain"  line  says "pending". I would assume, then, that I put that number in there some time ago. Apparently, there is no simple way to change it once the arrow is in the air.

    Then it sounds like you need to contact Apple. That SMS Message was sent but not received. This is part of the security of the system. You would't want me to be able to input another phone number to create trusted devices for you.
