Are you still using OS X (10.4.10) on your Mac as you indicate in your profile?  That operating system is about 10 years old, and it's hard to remember that far back.

If you have updated the operating system on your Mac, what system is it running at this time?

    OK, thanks for the information.

    On your Mac......

Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

Click on the picture of the Time Capsule

Click Edit in the smaller window that appears

If you want to change the password for the wireless network, click on the Wireless tab at the top of the window. Backspace/Edit out the info next to Wireless Password and type in the new password that  you want to use. Do the same to Verify Password.

Click Update at the lower right of the window and give the Time Capsule a full minute to restart.

If you want to change the device password for the Time Capsule....and not the wireless password.....then click the Base Station tab at the top of the window in AirPort Utility.

Thank you Bob, I did as you suggested and updated the wifi password. However I got an error message as follows:

AirPort Time Capsule was previously part of your network. Check that it is still in range of your network and is plugged into a power outlet. Forgetting this device remos it from this network - and the only option to press, is Forget.

I have not altered anything else, but now have no access to the Capsule. Any ideas?

Thank you so much for your help!

    Something did not update correctly.

    Restart your Mac

    Power off the TC

    Wait a minute

    Power up the TC again

Click  the WiFi icon at the top of the Macs screen and make sure that you are connected to your wireless network

Thank you Bob, I have done it and you were right, thank you so much! The time capsule is now working fine and the password changed. However ..... I have lost my Airport Express, which had a similar error message as the time capsule, I clicked forget, hoping the computer would locate the device, but nothing! I have switched it off and then on again, but hasn't helped!

Plus I have also lost my 5GHz wifi network from the Airport. Any ideas?

Again, thank you so much for your help!

Wish that you had told us that you also had an AirPort Express.  Since the Express only knows how to connect to the network using your "old" password, it cannot connect to the network with the "new" password because it does not have the information that it needs to do so.

You will have to reset the AirPort Express back to its factory default settings and then set it up again, just like you did when the device was new.

If you don't want to go through that exercise, then your only other option would be to change the password on the TC back to the "old" password that you were using before....the same password that the Express remembers.

Not sure how you want to proceed.

Sorry Bob, I have no idea how these things work, so didn't know the implications! Problem is that I set the Express up with the help of someone from Apple, and cannot remember anything about that, it was so long ago. Thing is also, I cannot see the Express anywhere at all on my computer, so would not even know how to reset it. I guess the best way is to go back to the old password on the TC and wifi, and take it from there? Thanks again for your help!

We can help you reset the Express if you want, so it will be able to join the network with the new password, or you can change the password on the TC back to what it was before, and the Express should be then be able to connect.

Which do you want to do?

If you want to reset the Express, we'll need to first verify what model that you have.  Does your Express look like example 1 below? or does it look like example 2?

    Example 1:

    New AX Back Panel.png

    Example 2:

    AirPort Express Back Panel.png

IF.....your Express looks like example 2, we need to verify which model number that you have. The model number is on the side of the Express....hard to see....with gray lettering on a white background.....so you may need good lighting and reading glasses to see it clearly.  The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.  Post back with the model number that you see if your Express looks like Example 2.

Apologies for the delay Bob, I am in London and nighttime comes earlier than where you are , but thank you so much for your follow up.

I'd love to reset my Express, and it looks like Example 1 you gave. Weekend activities may interfere with our dialogue, but I will be at my computer more constantly tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon GMT.

Power up the AirPort Express for a few minutes if it is not already on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the Express for 5 to 6 seconds, then release

Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status

    New AX Reset Button.png

Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen

Look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station

Click on AirPort Express just below that listing

    New AirPort Base Express.png

When you click on AirPort Express, that will start up the setup "wizard". It will take the wizard a few seconds to analyze the network, then display a screen that looks similar to the illustration below, except that you will see your devices and their names pictured in the window.

    Extend Wireless 1.png

Type in a name that you want to call the AirPort Express. You can use the same device name that you used before if you wish

Click Next and set up wizard will set things up for you autmatically. The process will take a minute or two.

    Extend Wireless 2.png

When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.......and, you are done.  Close the windows and everything will be working correctly.

Glad that you got things working again. As far a being an Apple "dude"....I'm a user....just like you, on a user-to- user forum, who has volunteered to help answer technical questions from other users.
