Ipod Touch 1st gen 8GB could not connect to Itunes because an invalid response was recived from device

my old 1st gen 8GB IPod touch will no longer connect to ITunes because an invalid response was received from device. have checked that ITunes and windows 10 PC are all up to date. Help needed
