number zero key wont work, but it does in...

ok this is strange and probably a duh, fix. my number zero key will not work as a zero, it works in upper case, as the parenthesis, and in number lock it acts as a backslash, so what is going on there??

i havent plugged in a keyboard yet, i just figured since it works in shift mode and number lock mode that the ky itself is not faulty...

this is the only key that doesnt work...
any ideas?? i looked in preferences, and i t doesnt look like any keys were changed..

g5 1.8 ghz, 20 inch, 17 mac book pro 2.16 ghz,100gb hard drive, ipod 5g 60gb, Mac OS X (10.3.9), hp photosmart 3310 printer, laci external hardrive, sony vaio, 15inch fs660

yes they are empty, shouldnt they be?? i havent changed any thing, but my daughter plays a harry potter game, as far as i know thats all she does, she is only 6 and knows she is not to do anything else so it would have been quite an accident if it was her, the only other person is my nephew, he was playing with it on thanksgiving, but i cant imagine him doing anything structural...

where would i go from here, any ideas??

thank you that was it!!! now as i recall on thanksgiving my nephew was playing around with the speech and he must have set this key. i knew it had to be a simple one, just didnt know where to start looking, so a big thanks to you, and a green star.

Open the Speech pane of System Preferences and check whether either the speech key or the listening key has become set to the zero; if so, change the setting.

That's strange, sounds like the mapping changed. Are the directories $HOME/Library/Keyboard Layouts and /Library/Keyboard Layouts empty?

Yeah I would think the directories should by default be empty. Looks like it might be a hardware issue then, I would take it for repair...
