Hi. I have a Macbook Pro - OSX 10.6.8 w/ Safari 5.1.10. I need to update my Safari but don't want to update to the newest version. I'd like to update to the best or most compatible version for my Macbook. Can anyone tell me which version would work the best? Thanks.

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Thanks for the info Brody. I read the link you shared and, sadly, I'm computer illiterate. I'm new and it all sounds foreign to me.

Let me see if I understand.....I need to update my OS X before I can update my Safari.

If I'm correct, then which OS X would be most compatible with my Mac version?

I really appreciate any help you can offer. I'm trying my best to learn and understand all of this.

If you want to stay with 10.6, Firefox is still being updated.

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite/El Capitan.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher

Your Mac needs:

OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed

2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)

8 GB or more of available space

Application Compatibility

Applications Compatibility (2)

El Capitan 10.11 Compatibility information

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
