Can't burn DVDs

I have a 15inch imac G4 800mhz with a superdrive, DVR-104. I can't burn DVDs. I can burn data CDs fine but not DVDs. I am using blank DVD-R bought from Apple. When I enter a blank DVD it brings up iDVD and click to my project and then to burn. It trys to burn but it displays an error msg at the end. I tried making an image file of the project then use the DISK UTILITIES to burn the DVD, same thing, it doesn't work. I am running OS X 10.3.9.

I also have trouble installing ilIFE 06. It didn't recognize the DVD. I had to take the imac to a genius bar and they hooked another macbaook to my G4 in order to have it install.

It plays movie DVDs fine. What's wrong with my superdrive? I want to burn some camcorder footage from the miniDV camcorder.

First, welcome to the discussions.

This is Apple's quick assist.
I personally recommend you follow a couple of suggestions, that help with System Maintence.

I also recommend the use of Roxio's Software for burning.

Yes Apple's work and work well, but for some users they are hard to fiqure out and use.

I am using MacTheRipper to rip the dvd then using DVD2oneX2 to compress the image file... I get the file down to 4.33 GB. But when I put in a blank DVD I look up available space and it says 4.28 GB... I Know You wont get a true 4.7 GB but It usually is a 4.38 GB... I notice when looking at the available space it says 10mb or so which would get it to a 4.38 GB says its already used and I have not done anything but put the DVD in the burner... How is it already using space just inserting the DVD? How can i get the 4.33 GB file on my dvd is it the brand? I am using TDK 8x DVD-R is that the problem to why only 4.28 is availiable and 10MB is alreayd used up by just inserting the dvd into my dvd burner?

Would upgrading the superdrive help? At my wits end

I have a 17inch imac G4 800mhz with a superdrive, DVR-104.
I am having the EXACT same issues. I can't burn a DVD but I can burn a CD. I get all the same messages. I tried burning with Toast 6 and Toast titanium 6 will display messages such has:

The driver reported an error:
Sense Key = BLANK CHECK
Sense Code = 0x00
NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION

or

The driver reported an error:
Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
Sense Code = 0x21, 0x02
BUFFER UNDERRUN

or

The driver reported an error:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x57
UNABLE TO RECOVER TABLE-OF-CONTENT

This is driving me crazy. Does ANYONE have a solution??

mdcwilson, you should be using -R discs. If you were using -R and it still didn't work I don't have a real solution other than get an external burner. I am researching the Sony's 820 and 830 UL/T external burners. Trying to get the superdrive to burn DVDs was very frustrating for me. I found the external burners work so I am going with that solution. Good luck.
