Q: Failed to open page error

This error occurs when I click the link on an email I received.  Then I tried to open Facebook.com in general, it does not open

I cannot log onto Facebook, or NewYork Times site NYT.com.  I think it is something to do with the cookies of the site, but after cookies from those sites are removed, and it still keeps occurring.  I sent a letter to NYT.com about it, about a few month ago because it seems to have been side shifted to 4share.com or something.  For awhile it got fixed, then since I haven’t subscribed any from the publisher, it stopped loading again. It seems to open some time, and doesn’t open most of the time.

Facebook, I shouldn’t have to subscribe, so there is some issues with the movie file or may be on political issues.  It does not load ANY of the page, including my login page or anything.  Is there a malware that blocks certain sites from me and I got infected from it?

Might be a cache issue ...

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

No, it’s not fixing.  Thank you for responding to me, though.

Thank you Eric, when I followed the second link, NYT.com seems to have recovered.  Facebook still does’t.  I am not sure if I follow the third link, because it is for old OS.  I am using El Capitain.  I guess some kind of extension of video file had corruption in it.  YouTube some file loads very slow, and Facebook has not been loading for quite some time.  I noticed it when the sharing stopped work on it.

You are welcome. To the best of my knowledge, the 3rd link should work with El Capitan.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Some strange thing happened.  I did not pay attention yesterday after clearing all of the history and cache, and I told you NYT.com came back.  Facebook was not, at that time.  But now, this afternoon, my son came back home and complained that “Why can’t I get onto Facebook?” noting it has been every time he comes home from college. Then funny thing happened.  Facebook is back on, may be half an hour after he complained.  Now WSJ as it has not been, is the only web site that does not open.  More funny is the fact that when I open the link through Google to wall street journal, then when I click on the link at the Google.com, it goes to Facebook!  What could it be?  I think there is a malware that play games in the political articles.  It’s like in the Comcast cable, someone had been playing zapping when the programs statements does not meet this guys agenda.  It used to happen at MSNBC, but now it happens at FOX.  Wall Street Journal is now a FOX company.  MSNBC is a Comcast company.  Net neutrality please!
