Can I use use a stand-alone screen (eg Samsung) as a second display with my iMac 21.5 inch (late 2013)?
OS X Yosemite v 10.10.5 (14F1021)
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

yeah, I use a 27" asus as main display for my mid2011 21" iMac using a tb->dvi connector
Yes, use the Thunderbolt connection on your iMac.
Once the display is connected, you can visit System Preferences -> Displays and disable the option to mirror the display.
