A professional editor told me that, in Montreal, all TV stations who previously worked with Final Cut are migrating to Adobe Premiere. He told me the reason for this is that apple does not intend to further develop their editing software and that it is already beginning to be obsolete. Is that true ?

WWhat version of FCP did they migrate from? They are correct that Apple has announced that it has no intention of developing an obsolete 32-bit version of their software. Their version of FCP is most likely indeed obsolete.
THe the curent version of FCP is widely considered the fastest editing software now available.

And for sure, AdobeCC is a superb suite of apps.... complicated, demanding beasts of hardware, costly (on the long run).
The new generation of movie-makers learn on a 299 app, how easy (and fast) editing can be done....
I"m not sure what FCP version they migrated from. He seemed to say that apple would not continue developing Final Cut Pro X. In other words, he was saying that apple was not interested in developing any editing software because they were focusing on gadgets such as mobile phones, intelligent watches and so on...So he seemed to say that Adobe was the only one viable for the long term...
TThat is complete and utter BS , spoken by someone who knows absolutely nothing and has an agenda they want to promote to justify a software decision.
P.S. Apple is a very large and astonishly rich company that can afford to do a lot of things at the same time.
I really love working with FCP X and I hope they will continue developing it.
One of the things that Courtens and Taylor keep on circling back to in that podcast is their strong support for prioritizing stability and performance over shiny new features. Could not agree more.

I stumbled upon your post accidentally, so forgive the late reply.
Actually the "professional" editor you talked with has it all wrong. BellMedia, who owns 30 TV stations in Canada, is already using FCP X for its stations in Toronto and Montréal and others will follow. I am following up on this project. Furthermore it's absolute nonsense that Apple does not intend to further develop their editing software, quite the opposite. In fact you may see some very interesting things in this respect in the coming months. Please follow the news about FCP X on sites like FCP.co, and ignore the FUD spread by people who know nothing about what's happening in the real world.

FYI:
Anyone who really does know about future Apple manoeuvring etc. are bound by NDAs.
Every one else can have have an opinion, but we all should be aware that speculating on Apple Support Communities regarding such things are not in agreement with the forum terms Of use.
Even if FCP X was "put out to pasture" it would still work for with existing gear for years.
I'm not panicking at this point. 🙂

We moved from Avid to fcpx this summer mostly because of 4k productions. I would not say that it's the best move to switch on this platform, it really depends on your workflow. For example at home I use Avid because I am use to it, but some of my friends use Premiere because of the ability to share files by the cloud and because it's easier with clients. Also today you can have a powerful pc for less than half the price of a macpro, so for me as a personal use, it was a nobrainer. Every software is a tool, it's the editor that does the job, so the best is to take any opportunity to learn new ways of creation.
