Q: Could I use iMac (late 2009) as a screen for new Mac Mini?

Might I use my late 2009 iMac as a screen for a new Mac Mini? One has Thunderbolt, and the other has a mini-display port. Though they look the same, what cord should I buy?

iMac has 8GB Ram, El Capitan 10.11.3

Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode - Apple Support

only if you have the 27inch Late 2009 iMac

Otherwise you will have to network the to Macs together and use Apple's Screen Sharing or an app like

1. Only if it’s a 27-inch model or you set up Virtual Network Computing.
2. Depending on what you choose/are able to do, a Mini DisplayPort cable or a regular network connection.

Thanks. I have the 21.5" iMac, so I guess linking with a cable is out of the question. I'll pursue one of the other options should I decide to go this route, thanks.
