Messages application won't open on iMac

I'm on an iMac Retina running Yosemite, 10.10.5. When I try to open the Messages app I get a blank screen, as shown below. Also, I noticed that my iMac is not visible to my iPhone in "Text Message Forwarding", if that's a further clue to what's wrong. Up until yesterday, everything was working fine. To my knowledge, I have not upgraded any software in the past couple of days.

Hi,

Which .plist did you delete ?

I take it Messages appears in the Menu Bar ?

Can you access the Preferences ?

Ideally the .plist should be com.apple.iChat.plist as this holds most of the windowing Info.

However if you can't access the Preferences and the window looks like that then issue may be Fonts.

Open the Font Book app and check the AppleGothic Font is On (Present, not Duplicated and Validates from the File menu)

The Font is near the bottom of the list in the Font Book App

Also check the Helvetica Neue and Lucida Grande are also Active and have no issues.
