Thanks. I Tried that before posting here.
no luck. The plug in is from 2014 I believe and the os is current. Wonder if that's the issue?
rgardless, I downloaded a trial of premiere, just so I could look at footage And I think I know where this is all going.
still open, if anyone has a solution.

that's odd. do you have Pro Video Formats 2.0.4 and the most recent version of your camera's firmware installed? if so, apple would want to know about it. zip and upload a disk image or archive of an original camera card somewhere, and report it to http://www.apple.com/feedback/finalcutpro.html. for tips about sending better feedback, check out http://www.fcpworks.com/submitting-better-fcpx-feedback-to-apple/
