Apple TV 4

  1. Test the Internet connection on your Apple TV.
  2. From the main Apple TV menu, navigate to Settings.
  3. Select Network.
  4. Under Connection, ensure it says Connected.

If the connection test fails, see Apple's support site for help troubleshooting your Apple TV's connection to your home network. If the test succeeds, continue on to the next step.

Force Quit Netflix

  1. Double click the Home button .
  2. Swipe right or left so Netflix is in focus.
  3. Swipe up to force quit the Netflix app.
  4. Try Netflix again.

Reboot your Apple TV

  1. Unplug your Apple TV for at least ten seconds.
  2. Plug your Apple TV back in.
  3. Try Netflix again.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Netflix app

  1. From the home screen, highlight the Netflix app.
  2. Press and hold in the center of the touchpad until the Netflix icon starts to shake.
  3. Press the play/pause button to uninstall and confirm when prompted.
  4. Reinstall Netflix from the App Store and try Netflix again.

  • Check for updates.
  • If your Apple TV isn't up to date with the most current software updates, it can cause streaming issues. To check for updates on your Apple TV:
    1. From the main menu, select Settings.
    2. Select System.
    3. Select Software Updates.
    4. Select Update Software.

If your firmware is out of date, you will see the option to Download and Install. Select it to upgrade your Apple TV firmware. Once you've downloaded any available updates (or if there were no updates available), launch Netflix and attempt to watch your movie or TV show again.

If all of this fails and you still see that issue, don't worry to much because I think it may be a bug.

It happens to me a lot when I fall asleep and the Apple TV 4 goes to sleep, I will turn it back on and see the Netflix error on the show I was watching before I fell asleep. I just ignore it most of the time and keep hitting ok and start playing it again. Sometimes it will play the show, then the error will pop up again, but I'll hit Ok and keep ignoring that the issue just happened and the show will start playing normally again.

Use the Netflix Chat support, this is what I got from them and it's now working.

I've got the Apple TV 4 and connect by Ethernet so go to Settings, Network, connection and select Ethernet, then select "Configure IP" then Automatic".

After this, select "Configure DNS", choose "Manual" and enter the following sequence: 008.008.008.008

This worked for me, give it a shot.

Hi,

I try to change DNS from manual (Googles DNS) to automatic, and got the same problem over and over...

I miss to precise, that I have this problem only on my AppleTV4. Netflix is working perfectly on My AppTV2 in my bedroom, on my MacBookPro,, on my iPhone, on my wife IPAD...

Netflix don't know about an 10008 error code.

Another Idea is welcome, thanks guys.

Regards.

DNS should always be set to auto

The Netflix app on ATV 4 is designed specifically for tvos by Netflix, and they are responsible for any issue

Please explain to me what's wrong with using custom DNS? There are a myriad of reasons to use DNS other than what your ISP decides to maintain. not the least of which include parents wanting to use OpenDNS, people who actually care about their DNS updating in a reasonable manner (i.e., Comcast or other ISPs not acknowledging TTL).

I'm genuinely curious as to why "DNS should always be set to auto"

I have the same problem. The 3rd generation ATV works, my IOS and computer works, but not the new ATV. I do use a VPN because I am overseas. Netflex is blocking VPNs, but my IP provider has solved this problem, but it still does not work with the new ATV. The problem is only with Netflix. Hulu and other apps work.

The problem has to be with the new ATV because it works with all other apple products. Please let me know if you ever find out a solution for this problem.

I am having the same issue sporadically with the 10008 error Netflix issue. I am in the US and have centurylink. Centurylink came out and installed a new router/modem. I have my Gen4 appleTV hooked up by ethernet connection.

Netflix says it is Centurylink, and told me to run their own speedtest using Netflix's speedtest, fast.com shows a kbps slow speed. All other speedtests show about a 20 mbps speed. Everything else works.

Netflix blames Centurylink, Centurylink blames Netflix. No one explains the difference in speedtests. I still sit here with sometimes no Netflix. Love to have someone get to the bottom of this. I have tried rebooting my appleTv and trashing and reinstalling the Netflix app. This solves nothing.

My older appleTV in another room seems better.

Any help would be appreciated. Respectfully, Frank

Hello faithfulfrank,

Are you using the ISP DNS?

The difference in speed tests is likely due to the route to the server. That will be affected by the DNS, since it gives the IP address for a domain name. Because servers are distributed around the country (akamai), the same domain will be mapped to different IPs by different DNS.

Can you try connecting ATV on WiFi, to see if it makes a difference?

Have you tried disabling IPv6 in your router?

Thank you Diana for your kind help. Today I called Apple, and they told me to change my DNS settings from manual to automatic. I did. The problem seems to be that it is sporadic. I seem to get the Netflix error code 10008 mostly at night about 10pm. In the daytime it seems better. The picture still seems a bit pixelated or like watching an old VHS tape...not hi-def. It also seems to take awhile, about 30 seconds to download a tv show or movie on Netflix. My other older appleTV seems slow also, but I have not (I do not think) gotten the 10008 Error on the older appleTV from the other room.

I have tried this with it wired to an ethernet cord and also wireless, it does not matter. The Fast.com speedtest still shows like 52kbps. All other speed tests show 16-20 mbps. When I have watched movie trailers that apple sells they download fast and the picture is amazing. I have called Netflix every night when this happens. I have rebooted the appleTV, restored it, deleted the netflix app and reinstalled it, etc. I will see tonight if the error code happens again. Even if it does not, I think the picture quality is poor and the time it takes to stream a show is long, and with frequent stops, like buffering.

This tells me that Netflix is right that I have low speeds for the App. They tell me it is not them. When watching netflix on a wireless tablet or phone it seems better. They say that proves it is not them, and that their speed test proves it. Centurylink says their speed tests of 20 mbps prove they are good. Apple TV says that the perfect download of movie trailers in the movie app prove they are good. Everyone is good....but the problem persists. sadly, I am not very "techy"...this is not my area of expertise. Any help would be appreciated. Respectfully, Frank

Can you check the internet settings in your router, to confirm that it's getting the nameservers (DNS) automatically from the provider, and that they have not been set manually? It certainly seems that you're getting a bad route to the Netflix server, resulting in low speed.

What did you run the fast.com speed test on, and how was it connected to the network?

I have had this same issue with my Apple tv4 and Netflix for a few weeks now. I called Netflix tonight and they gave me the same brush off that everyone else is getting. It's clearly their app because my smart tv app plays most titles without issue. My connection speed can't be blamed because every other Netflix enabled device I own works fine.

I really wish Netflix would fix this issue with their Apple TV app.
