I am having the same issue sporadically with the 10008 error Netflix issue. I am in the US and have centurylink. Centurylink came out and installed a new router/modem. I have my Gen4 appleTV hooked up by ethernet connection.

Netflix says it is Centurylink, and told me to run their own speedtest using Netflix's speedtest, fast.com shows a kbps slow speed. All other speedtests show about a 20 mbps speed. Everything else works.

Netflix blames Centurylink, Centurylink blames Netflix. No one explains the difference in speedtests. I still sit here with sometimes no Netflix. Love to have someone get to the bottom of this. I have tried rebooting my appleTv and trashing and reinstalling the Netflix app. This solves nothing.

My older appleTV in another room seems better.

Any help would be appreciated.  Respectfully, Frank

    Hello faithfulfrank,

Are you using the ISP DNS?

The difference in speed tests is likely due to the route to the server. That will be affected by the DNS, since it gives the IP address for a domain name. Because servers are distributed around the country (akamai), the same domain will be mapped to different IPs by different DNS.

Can you try connecting ATV on WiFi, to see if it makes a difference?

Have you tried disabling IPv6 in your router?

I tried fast.com "powered by Netflix", which gave you the slow speed report. It gives me the normal speed for my connection. I checked the route and it's 8 hops to an akamai server in Cambridge, MA (I'm on the east coast so that's expected). Can you get a tracerte for fast.com from your location?

I know this is a long shot for this thread but possibly this helps in some cases:

In my case I came across error 10008 after activating parental controls on my router.

After setting Apple TV back to unrestricted in my router, error 10008 was no more.

    Here's my post:

Thank you Diana for your kind help. Today I called Apple, and they told me to change my DNS settings from manual to automatic. I did. The problem seems to be that it is sporadic. I seem to get the Netflix error code 10008 mostly at night about 10pm. In the daytime it seems better. The picture still seems a bit pixelated or like watching an old VHS tape...not hi-def. It also seems to take awhile, about 30 seconds to download a tv show or movie on Netflix. My other older appleTV seems slow also, but I have not (I do not think) gotten the 10008 Error on the older appleTV from the other room.

I have tried this with it wired to an ethernet cord and also wireless, it does not matter. The Fast.com speedtest still shows like 52kbps. All other speed tests show 16-20 mbps. When I have watched movie trailers that apple sells they download fast and the picture is amazing. I have called Netflix every night when this happens. I have rebooted the appleTV, restored it, deleted the netflix app and reinstalled it, etc. I will see tonight if the error code happens again. Even if it does not, I think the picture quality is poor and the time it takes to stream a show is long, and with frequent stops, like buffering.

This tells me that Netflix is right that I have low speeds for the App. They tell me it is not them. When watching netflix on a wireless tablet or phone it seems better. They say that proves it is not them, and that their speed test proves it. Centurylink says their speed tests of 20 mbps prove they are good. Apple TV says that the perfect download of movie trailers in the movie app prove they are good. Everyone is good....but the problem persists. sadly, I am not very "techy"...this is not my area of expertise. Any help would be appreciated.   Respectfully, Frank

Can you check the internet settings in  your router, to confirm that it's getting the nameservers (DNS) automatically from the provider, and that they have not been set manually? It certainly seems that you're getting a bad route to the Netflix server, resulting in low speed.

What did you run the fast.com speed test on, and how was it connected to the network?
