factory reset with windows keyboard

I got a used imac with os x 10.5.8 and i am trying to do a factory reset with a windows (DE keyboard. We have used so many combinations of keys to try and reset it. None of them have worked. Every time we try to hit the keys and hold it down it just goes back to the desktop screen and no factory reset screens. We dont know what else to do. Please help!
