Why in Faces many photo show white circle instead of the face?

Many of the faces appear without a photo of the face. If I select to show the entire photo, it shows correctly.

I thought it might be some caching issue. Does anyone know how to solve this? See an example below:

is this in the board with the Faces thumbnails, or in the strip of unnamed faces below the panel with the faces thumbnails?

If it are the circular thumbnails on the photos in the faces album, you can pick a different photo of the person to use as the key photo. for the faces album.

To fix the white thumbnnails permanently, you need to force photos to scan the photo again for faces thumbnails.

But since photos are only scanned for faces when they are imported, you will have to export the photo from photos, then delete the version with the blank faces thumbnail, empty the recently deleted album, import the photo again, name the face again.

Or, the quick and dirty way, delete the faces circle on the photo, then click the + in the Info panel and add the face again. The drawback will be, that manually added faces cannot be used for the automatic face recognition.

. Looks like a feedback to provide to Apple.

Definitely. We need a way to force a faces scan again, that does not require reimporting.

If many photos are missing thumbnails, you could try to repair the photos library. If the problem is, that the faces scan data are still valid, but only the

thumbnail images corrupt or missing, they could be repaired this way.

Make a backup copy of your Photos library, before you try this.

See this Help Page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/index.html#/pht6be18f93

If you experience problems with photos in a library, Photos can try to repair it. If problems persist, you can also restore your library from a Time Machine backup.

Important: You should back up your photo library before repairing your library.

  • If Photos is open, choose Photos > Quit Photos.
  • Press Option-Command and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock). The Repair Library window opens.
  • Click Repair to rebuild your photo library.

Alternately restore your library from a Time Machine backup you made, before the thumbnails got corrupted.

But both methods are problematic, if your library is an iCloud Photos Library, because the library will upload again to iCloud. It may take several days before the new upload finishes.
