I cannot work with my Canon cameras after upgrading to os x 10.11.3 El Capitan. Does anyone know about an image browser that connects Canon and os x 10.11.3?

Here are some things to try, if you haven't already:
Neither iPhoto nor Photos are image browsers.
Most simple: Select an image in a folder. Tap the space bar - that's Quicklook. Use the Up and Down arrows to move to the next image.
Gee. Seems like I can browse my photos pretty well with them.

You don't have to import the files, but you do have to add the files into the database. But, I agree this isn't what the OP is searching for.

I think you'll notice that I didn't say "import the files" I actually said "only after importing your images" - but we're splitting semantic hairs. Yes a referenced library is possible but that has other issues - not least that you cannot use it with an iCloud Library.

My problem is that the computer does not recognize the camcorder, so I cannot import the images and the movies.

Can you take the card from the camera and connect to your mac directly?
What about just using good old Image Capture?
