Q: How do I find files?
Since upgrading to El Capitan a couple of months ago, I have had the most difficult time finding files! I've tried to read about the updates to Finder and also Spotlight Search, but it hasn't helped.
Before the upgrade, I was able to find files with Finder quickly by entering part of the file name, but that no longer works. Today, I was searching for some documents, although I knew where they were, just to see how easy it would be to find them.
First I tried Finder, and nothing came up. Then I tried the “go to folder” option by entering the exact name of the folder and nothing came up! I tried the same with Spotlight Search and instead of finding the folder, it opened up an app, which I did not want at all!
I rarely use the Spotlight Search because the few times I've used it, it has not helped. There have been numerous times I have tried to search for a file by name in Finder, and a long list of files comes up and I finally see the file I am searching for way down the list, which contains more of the search criteria I entered than the files that appear near the top!
There are lot more instances when this has happened than I care to list.
What am I doing wrong? Help!
