how can I sort my artists by last name in itunes

iTunes has absolutely no concept of "last name." It simply does a lexical sort on the text in the Album field.

If you wish to leave the Artist name as it is, but override it for sorting purposes, you can enter data in the Artist Sort As field, which is on the Sorting tab for each song. Use the format "Lastname, Firstname" to get the sort that you want.

I have several instances of artists that iTunes simply will not sort by last name. This has forced me to put in middle initials or names to get iTunes to sort by last name. This is very frustrating. Is there anyway to fix this glitch? Thank you.

Realize that as in ed2345's post iTunes sorts by several different name fields. There's Artist, there's Album Artist, there's Sort Artist, there's Sort Album Artist...
