When I go to some sites that have Flash aspects the flash part doesn't display. It says that I need a plugin to view the flash part. The site I'm looking at is www.hgtv.com. What makes me think that it's a problem with javascript, is that I looked at the code for the website, and the flash is wrapped in javascript, like so:

"<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
var swfUrl = "http://web.hgtv.com/webhgtv/images/homepage/flashHighlights/highlightPlayer_11 -27-06.swf";
var sHGTVPreviews = getFlashObj (swfUrl, 488, 325);

Now, if I copy the url for the flash movie, and paste that into my browser, it displays just fine. Other websites that don't have their flash wrapped in javascript also display fine. Any ideas?

    The JavaScript looks to be incomplete.

    There doesn't appear to be a call to the external JavaScript file that processes the two methods - getFlashObj() and writeFlashObj().

    There should be some extra information in the line <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> such as src="external_file.js"
