Q: My ipod shuffle 2nd gen driver is gone, how do I replace it?

I like the 2nd generation Ipod shuffles so when one of mine broke I bought a used one from Amazon. When I connected it to the computer it quickly downloaded something, then said it need to be returned to factory settings but iTunes didn't recognize it so that was impossible to do. I took it to a local Apple store and it did the same thing to them so I returned it to Amazon. I immediately tried to change the music on another ipod shuffle that I had but iTunes wouldn't recognized it either, so I checked the other 2 I had. Same thing. I have 2 gen 4, so I tried them and they're fine. Microsoft can't find anything wrong and says it's an Apple problem. Apple can't fine anything wrong and says it's a Microsoft problem. I figure it's the driver and am trying to replace it but don't know where to go. Does anyone know? Or does anyone have any idea what happened?

It's not related to missing drivers.  Installing iTunes gives you the necessary software for using all iPods.

Since you have both 2nd gen and 4th gen shuffles, are you connecting the 2nd gen shuffle using the long cable with docking cradle that originally came with the 2nd gen shuffle?  The short USB docking cable that comes with 4th gen shuffle does not work with a 2nd gen shuffle (the connector is different).
