Hey, my littlesister is having a problem with the user name.
We have checked the settings, and no where in "users and groups" is anything called "user", not under "advanced settings" as well. But some times it still says "user" anyway. For example in "finder --> users" the main folder with the house icon, is called "user". How does she change it?

Sometimes, when you change one, (when sharing on network, so there
is less chance of seeing two of a similar name online) it may not fix the
name in another location in the system. There are some general answers.
So when entering into user accounts, and passwords that allow access to
various levels of the OS X (standard level, admin level, etc) consider...
And if the account in question is one under control of Parental Controls
via an adult's supervision, you should ask them for assistance to proceed.

When changing user information, there are times when the passwords need
to be applied to make changes. If you don't remember the passwords easily
it may be helpful to know how to change or reset them before they're lost or
forgotten. And put a copy of your password in your shoe for safekeeping 😝

The account is not under parental control. The name of the account was chosen when she bought the computer a month ago and have not been changed since. We know how to change the username, we have been reading the articles about changing user names as you mention. I always seem to find the answers to my problems online, and i would not ask this question if haven't been double checking. It is the first time i write a question online.
It seems like a bug or something. I have had i mac in 5 years myself, and i thought i knew everything, and what i didn't know i always figured out anyway, as the mac system is pretty simple to figure out.
There is only one account, and it's name have always been "Manja" (her name) since she went through the upstarting procedure when she first bought it. And actually it was the shop (who should be well trained) who helped her start op the mac.
Thats why I find it odd. When i compare it to my own settings, my "user folder" with the icon of the house, is named exactly the same as my user name, in advanced settings. I am aware that there is both the user name that you see when logging in, and the real user name. Non of them is called "user".
Has anyone tried to change both account and computer names following
the methods set forth in the support articles about this topic?
Is this 'User' account an Admin account? There are procedures where one
can make a new user account and move content into it, then delete the old.
Some owners will set up a Standard account, and only log into Admin to
perform updates & install new software. That would be a security measure.
Perhaps a permissions or privileges issue has developed; maybe to see if
repair disk permissions or other ideas may help. Usually when a name was
changed, there is a confirmation process. Especially if the computer account
relates to an AppleID and online store, etc.
The inquiry and reference to Parental Controls was added to my reply due
to the practical issue where I could have told you (or her) how to work around
it and if the computer is owned and managed by an adult, that wouldn't have
been fair to their interests or edicts as parents.
Anyway, perhaps someone else can answer your question; after asking the
questions that need reply in order to determine what was done in the OS X.

You could suggest to create a new user account and remove the older one after
including content from the original or one changed simply to 'User'... And if a
backup were made in Time Machine before this happened, you could restore from
the backup and then use the following information to condense the two different
user accounts (old correct name and new User branded one) into a single account.

To test the computer and OS X itself, by setting up a second new user account.
There may be a permissions and privileges issue in ownership of files, folders,
and created content that may conflict. Usually these kinds of items don't occur.
